Sennen in the UK is forecast to be 28ft @ 21 seconds

Belharra in France promises 16ft @ 19 seconds

Nazare is looking at 29ft @ 21 seconds

Anchor Point further south promises at 16ft @ 19 seconds.

Im sure the locals down there will know some secret reefs with some wind protection down there no?

Swell that size I think theres likely a few place that people havnt considered before that will be breaking now going to be some absolute monsters. At the same time though gonna be a hell of a clean up lotta damge caused. Reckon most will head a bit further south like europe cant imagine any of the beach breaks are gonna hold swell that size.

Almost... there's been some little 1ft waves for everyone (and I mean everyone) to play on, but nothing to speak of

Some southerly swell should be hitting later today though which should rock off the point quite nicely

It's been awful here over the last 2 weeks. Massive swell but all carried in by gale force onshore winds. I read about two surfers who got swept away. One body recovered the other was so bad even the lifeboat couldn't go out to search for him. Sad times.

Guess I don't understand surf forecasting but I was expecting good waves between windy periods: it was mainly just a mess and as far as I'm concerned, not ridable. Looking forward to a very much nicer set of waves as things calm down. Has anyone else noticed that magic seaweed long range forecast seems to be overly optimistic?

It needs a little while to settle down, both in terms of time and distance - the big low pressure is very close to the UK, so the waves haven't got time to clean up as they travel (ideally you'd want a low like that to be down near the caribbean coast), and the ocean is still bumpy and a confused mess which needs to "settle down" for a bit.
Ideally you also want a high pressure system above the UK to flatten out the ripples... and to make it a nice day too

I think you're right, and their models are set to look for good swells and so, with a little bit of long-range inaccuracy, finds stuff that isn't there.

The main thing that washed it all out is the gale force onshore winds
