So what is the problem with this artificial reef? It was damaged by a boat propeller? Ooops sounds like they should have made it more durable. Is it time to throw more money into it or to give up? I am guessing give up unless they have a plan to keep boat propellers from damaging it again.

Fundamentally it is too small to produce a rideable wave. Ok if you ride a shark biscuit but the even just after it was first completed the waves would curl around both ends and collapse in on themselves.
At low to mid tide the reef was also exposed, you can do a great Moses impression on it.
But yes it was hit by a boat.

I too support this, and desperatly hope that they will make it considerably better this time.
I remember when it first 'opened' and it was a huge let down. But I am very excited at the prospect of a regular surf spot 2hrs drive away as opposed to the current 5hr drive that I have to the Cornish coast.

How exactly are they going to replicate real deep to real shallow water to produce a decent wave?

I think that is the purpose of the sand bags. In order to create a shallow.
But I am not certain, but if they can't manage a rideable wave in the sea how are they going to manage one in a lake? http://www.the-wave.co.uk/

Ive seen a few of these type of things around the internet, they have one in dubai i think and that works pretty well. Machinery has come a long way.

They are looking to put one up in a lake in Bristol.
I can imagine it being either very expensive, very busy or both!!
