Do any of you have an Indo (or other) balance board?

What do you think of it? I'm thinking of getting one. I am 6'0" and ride an 8'6" board. I was thinking of just getting the Original one. How much do you find if helps you learn balance out in the water?

Thanks for any input.

The funnest ones are with a three liter soda bottle filled with water, but not completley, leave a small bubble so you can rock back and forth on it, and it works your heel-toe balance too.

Use an old skateboard deck with that, or like a 1x6 or something about two feet long.

I got an indo board for xmas and I've been tooling around on it since. I think it definitely helps your balance and general and if you ride a longboard can help with moves on the nose. Surfing is very different, at least from what I've experienced ( I longboard) and the balance you learn on the indo board doesn't translate directly to balance in the water but it probably helps some.

Thanks for all the advice. I might go for a cheaper version then, if it isn't a great benefit. Don't want to get ripped off.

Definitly get the cheapest you can find... just make sure the wood is strong... and the pip thing is fine... really there is no need for a high-quality one, it does nothing special.

Vewdo balances boards are the best. They make skate decks and rocks as well as a mid and longboard (3-4ft models). They are handmade from my hometown in Vermont and originated from ski and snowboard industry.

Just make sure you use it in a large room with no sharp edges in the proximity. You will fall off, whatever level your at, beginner or doing tricks, and i have taken huge chunks out of my bedroom furniture :( and also out of my head,...

i made one about a year ago 3litre bottle of coke and skateboard deck, its wicked nothing like riding a board much easier plus i can do tricks on it, my best is i can jump and spin the board 720 under my feet then land it seriously good fun, never had a go on a real one, and i really have no reason to buy one, 100 quid for somethin that i can make a similar one to.. what a joke!!

You never have a problem with the bottle? What I mean is, it supports your weight just fine and everything? Seems like the pressure would make it crumple fairly easily since you can't close it air tight.

i made one a long time ago and i was too heavy for it and the board cracked in half (particle board). then i made another board (solid wood) and its good ever since. i think that if you have an old boogie board it might work as long as it dont bend but the pipe needs to be big or else it wont do anything. by the way how often do you guys use the board or should be using it? i only use it like 5 min a week cuz it dont seem to help me as much. once i got the hang of it then my surfing balance got better but i dont know if i can get better on the indo board thing so i kinda stopped and i dont think it will make a significant difference now.

What would you guys think of having a shpere under the board instead of the pipe. It owuld be harder, and more dangerous, but i think more like surfing.

i have no idea? good idea, try it, if it works put them on the market and gives us all a free one!! i dont think they really help with your surfing directly, they definitly improve balance but so does surfing, bike riding, oh yeah have you tried standing on one leg and closing your eyes and counting like to ten or something? try it your probably fall over!!!

i actually seen a sphere one on a website but it was more like a board with a hemisphere attached to the bottom so it doesnt roll. kinda like that carnival ride with the chain swings.

balls don't work, no matter how much you try. What I came up with though to do something like it, was either to make a roller out of wood and taper it down from teh middle( middle is six or seven inches thick, tapering down to four or five on the ends with like a two inch wide flat spot in the middle) or using a curved from toe to heel board. Like a skateboard deck on a plastic roller instead of a soda bottle.
