buying a board in Bali

Postby Moe Sizlack » Sun Jan 02, 2005 3:51 pm

I live in Japan and have been surfing on and off for about 10 years but to date I have never owned a board. Currently I get around 2-3 opportunities a year to surf for a few days (here in Japan and in Hawaii), at which point I rent a board. So now I'm thinking that maybe it is time to make the investment and buy a board while on vacation in Bali next week. Are they generally cheaper in Bali than Japan? I have not been there before so I really do not know what to expect. I'm 163cm and 58kg. Thanks for any advice on this one... :?:

Well, first if you only surf for like a week a year, a board may not be a smart idea, unless you can get to the shore more, and surf a lot more.

I think what is really driving me to consider buying a board is that I'm getting tired of always getting stuck with poor quality rental boards. I'm also wondering wether or not always using different boards is making it more difficult to learn. Consistently using the same board may help me to improve as I will no longer have to waste time getting used to yet another rental board.... Any advice?
