Looking for a new surfboard beginner

I've been surfing for three years now and since the summer has ended, I am looking to upgrade to a new board. I started my first year with the cosco wavestorm, then went to the an epoxy 9'0" longboard for two years. I'm looking for something shorter (partially because my car can't fit 9'0" board :) ). The surf in my area goes from 2ft-5ft. My buddy wants me to get a 6'6" board Image but I was wondering if you guys thing I should stick with an 8' longboard, go to a funboard, or make the plunge into shortboarding.

how much do you weigh, how old are you, are you fit, how often do you surf.

I would try to demo a few shorter boards before making a purchase. This way you will know what a 6'6" feels like, and be able to make a more informed purchase. Borrow a few different boards from your friends, check the local surf shops for demo boards, or even rent if you have to. Anyway, if it turns out you prefer the 9'0" you can always get a rack and haul the board on top of your car. Good luck!
