Surfing Waves

Hey... Surfer Guys.... Dudes...

I don't know xxxxx about surfing or kite surfing or wingsuit flying...


But I saw these guys wingsuit flying on video... close to the ground...

Then just this weekend saw guys just shreading the waves kitesurfing at the

beach in Westport, Washington...

Could you guys Kitesurfing...... Tack out to sea... several hundred yards with a

over size kite for the wind so you would get good lift... turn towards land...

with a good slant... jump and catch the air... flip in your harness to hold your

bar like in a hang glider and fly your kite on a slant down wind towards shore

-- 15-20 foot high like a bird towards the shore... several hundred yards... or

more?

Could that work at all?

Kitesurfing is a dangerous sport. Riding kites outside of their wind range is not recommended and is completely unnecessary. Attempting to remove your harness whilst riding would be impossible and stupid. The photo link shows just minor air that most kitesurfers can do these days. This is more serious air.

That pier jumping is insane.

My aunt in law (?) is a nurse and recently had to deal with a kite surfer who got picked up about 50ft and then dropped into the sand and, well, both legs become a lot shorter very very quickly. Trying to do it with even less control... I guess if you went 2 miles out into the ocean and had a support vessel, it might be doable

What I was trying to say was to fly your kite safe...

Pick a day with steady, constant wind with little in the way of gusts or shifting..

Stay low.. 10-15 feet high at the most, stay over the water

Tack several hundred yards out from the beach, away from the others so you have plenty of flying space and time to fly and select a safe landing space, still clear of others..

Not disconecting from your harness, just holding on a differnt way so as to be able to watch where you are flying .. maybe a mirror on your control bar to view your kite...

I was just wondering if it was possible to fly your kite with such control over it that you could control your height over the water and direction. With the control I see you guys have over the direction when you a boarding, I thought you might be able to do that too.

I imagine that you could control your course downwind in a 120degree arc downwind and be able to tack while flying, some of you guys seem that good..

I wasn't trying to say get crazy and fly it as high as you can... I was talking going for low and in control as a different angle of enjoying your sport...

Not even able to stand up on a board... so I don't know anything more than that... (tried surfing 30+ years ago Santa Monica, Calif for much of one summer, never could get my balance on the board, even a Queen Mary 12 footer board, was ok at body surfing...which I still enjoy)

Could work, perhaps. However, those wing parachute guys are travelling much faster than it seems and falling downwards quite quick, as well as a bit forward. So I'm not sure you could get high enough just for the suit. Dont know enough about kite surfing to know if you could control it in that way, I suspect you need the fulcrum of the board to do weight shifting

But, that said, I have seen people do ridiculous things (like that wharf jump, and there is a wing suit guy who flies through a hole in a rock), so its possible. Shoot the idea to Red Bull or someone, see what happens

What you really want to try is this.



Probably much safer than fixing a piece of glass to the control bar right infront of your throat.
