Newbie looking for good local surfing instructor in Oahu.

I am leaving for Oahu in a few days and am looking for a good surfing instructor. I have been researching some surfing schools but I am nervous about being stuck in a large group and not really getting to expereince the "true" surfing in Hawaii. I am a part time snowboard instructor at a local ski hill, so I hope to be better than the average surfing begineer. Whenever I go snowboarding someplace new, like Colorado, I like to find a local instructor like myself and pay him rather than pay some big tourist buisness. I would gladly pay double what the schools charge, to get the real scoop from a good surfing local. Any recomendations would greatly be appreciated!
P.S. - If your in hawaii the next two weeks, look for the newbie white guy
