I have an opportunity to buy this board in new condition plus lots of extras for $250.

I'm relatively new to surfing and always wanting to practice when i'm home.. sounds like this could be cool. what do you guys think??

well, oceanbreak, it's like many things (bicycle, guitar, billiard table, swimming pool, etc.) If you use it, it'll be money well spent. If you don't, it is money wasted. Overall, it reminds me of a rowing machine I have. I really enjoy using this rowing machine. It is well made and provides a lot of fitness. The ripSurfer X looks like it can be used many ways and looks well made. I wouldn't pay $550 for one, but if I could get one that is in near new condition for $250, I'd probably do it. The key is, you've got to like it enough to use it.

So i bought it yesterday from this lady off CL, pumped the balls and started using it. It's a blast! feels like a surfboard and you can really do a lot with it. Paddling felt just as or even more wobbly than in the water. and i feel comfortable working on turning mechanics without losing precious wave-riding time.

oceanbreak,
sounds nice. You could have saved a lot of money by swiping your Mother's ironing board!

Seriously, I'd hold 3 to 5 pound weights in my hands when doing exercises that involve pulling those stretchy-cord handles. This could be done for the paddling exercises, as well as the tricep and bicep exercises done while standing. This will make a massive difference in strength and endurance that will benefit you in the water. But, you have to be careful when beginning to train like this. It is easy to over do-it or even get hurt. Eventually, I'd work up to 10 pounds.

Good idea. Though that lady did by those strechy chords and included them as well! and she gave me some extra balls too.

It's pretty cool to have the feeling of surfing in your living room.. and pushups.. so hard on that thing! Now i'm going to work on laying on my back on that board.. always wanted to do that in the ocean ;)

Keep using it and you'll never see the benefits . . . stop using it and you will soon know something is wrong ! : That's training for you :D

Hey, good deal, I think I could do with buying some extra balls, it would make a heap of difference to my surfing.
