Surf Info? Writing Novel

Postby scarletauthor » Mon Jul 01, 2013 3:52 pm

Hi, I'm Scarlet. I am writing a novel, and I am in need of some surfing info. First I just want to say I will be greatly appreciative if anyone can help me out. In my book a few guys the age of 25 surf at above average skill level. They live on the North Shore of Oahu. They spend a lot of time with a 20 yr old girl who surfs just as good. This is not a book about surfing. It is however a big part of four of my characters lives, one living right on the beach.
I am in need of some things one surfer may ask another about the wave conditions when they show up to surf. Also some things they may converse about as far as tricks they may have done while out. The guys will be basically asking the girl how well she surfs and will discover she is very good.
There will not be a lot of detailed conversation, really just one in depth. They will however be saying quite often that they are going to surf, and will mention their board frequently. Is that what people say at this age when they are telling someone they are going out to surf? Do they also just say "board" when referring to it?
A few slang lingo may also be helpful. Once again, I am very grateful for any info!

Lol there is a ton of lingo I guess, a Google search should bring up a lot of them. But as far as your board, I've called it my shred stick, my boat for my long board, my shortie for my short.

The number of surfing novel writers looking for info is starting to catch up with the number of students looking for help with their disertations and surveys. I smell a fish Sherlock.

Guy: "Can you twonk the shibble?"
Girl: "Can I twonk the shibble? Dude, I was twonking the shibble before you even got your boardshots on. Man, I can puttle the whole woobery."

"I'm off to fondle the fishy fandelabra."

Loads of names for this one - twanglestick, zoopy rocket, floatin' honker, waxed-up winkle.

No worries. Put those in and they'll think you're a native.

Now I'm off with my waxed-up winkle to fondle the fishy fandelabra, as I hear the fundelbutt is really hocking its wang today.
