Surfing Waves

I have a question about longer biscuits
I'm 41 years old, 5'9" and about 75kg. I started surfing about a year ago...
I learned to surf on a 6'10" funboard. I still consider myself a beginner but I have somewhat mastered pop-ups and take offs and have no problem with that but I'm still working on turning and linking turns... I've got a long way to go with that...
Anyways, I'm now having a custom-made board for me...

I surf in Chiba, japan where the waves rarely reach over 2m and r mostly beach breaks...
It was recommended, by my shaper, that I go with a 6'5" biscuit style board...

Anyways I just want some opinions from other surfers for a beginnerish surfer on a larger biscuit styled board....

I have never surfed a cog but from what I understand they are suited to more mushy waves that are fairly small; which suggests good for what you are after. Whether they are suitable for your skill level I can't say.

Where do you surf - many many years ago I lived in Tokyo and spent quite a few vacations near Shimoda

For a while a biscuit is all I surfed, but mine was 6'3. They have way better paddle than a shortboard, so if you are a begginer it shoudl suit you fine. They aren't great in steep waves, but works in most conditions up to overhead as long as the wave has a more peeling form than walled

Chiba, Japan definitely has its mushy days that's for sure (I usually surf in the Onjuku or Ohara areas).
I definitely feel better about my purchase.
My friends here in Japan recommended that kind of board for me but I only understand them half the time since they're all Japanese
