Protocols about other people's boards

As a newbie, I have a question about surfing protocol and manners. There's quite a bit out there about manners out in the lineup, etc. What about other people's boards? Any do's and don'ts in that area?

Let me give an example from bikers (motorcycles, not bicyclists). In biker culture, it is absolutely, strictly taboo to touch another rider's bike in any way, shape or form. Hands off, period. Doing otherwise is a good way to get some major dental work. You just don't do it, period. Don't even ASK.

Are there any customs like this with surfboards? Is it uncool to touch somebody else's board or, heaven forbid, take it for a ride?

Thanks,
Ruark

You don't ask to ride someone else's board, but if they offer it you have to ride it even if you aren't interested.

Hahaha absolutely not. I ask to ride loads of peoples boards.
One of my mates has this board unriden and unwaxed and i ask him everytime i see it if i can take it out for a ride. He always says no but never takes offense.

One day i'll get my beady little mits on it.

That's not a board, it's a UFO.
