musy close horrible waves

Postby Dantastic1985 » Sun Apr 28, 2013 7:06 pm

Hi surf fans.

I was out in some 3 foot awful mushy waves yesterday and was wondering what the best board would be?

There was a few mals, couple of longboards, a trad twin fin fish (looked proper old school) and some short boards.

No one was ripping it as the conditions were rank.

So.... what do you ride when its mush and why?

If its clean mush (small weak crumbly waves, but no chop) then a longboard or a fish is the way to go as they'll make the most of what power there is.

If its choppy mush, then I prefer something with a pointier nose to cut through the bumps, but preferably still with some volume. I find that a fish (or similar board with a flat rocker and wide front section) flaps about over the chop, and is also much harder to paddle in conditions that aren't smooth.

We ended up in at Blyth; more shelter from the wind. It was still really messy, but fun.
