How far do you live from the beach?

I live (if you measure it in a straight line) 40 feet from my local. I walk out the back door, travel 40 feet along my little track through the sand dunes and, hey presto...I'm there. At the moment things here are shifting around alot and the best sand bar at our beachbreak is about 100-200 feet down the beach, depending on the tide.

Actually, I know living at the beach is cool & all, but it does have drawbacks (true) like creepy old men sunbathing in speedos in the sandunes during the day, your washing on the clothesline is perpetually crunchy, people lighting dangerous fires & partying in the sandunes at night (think the opening scene from Jaws) and I have to clean my windows every week.

I still check the buoys & surf forcasting data, I like to know what's pending...looking at surf will only tell you what is happening now....not give a good idea what'll be happening tomorrow...

I can get into the water from my flat in about 2 minutes if I'm quick enough
and I can see my local break from my living room window and it's a slightly side on view too so you can get a really good picture of what it's doing, my flat itself is a piece of sh1t but hey I got if for the great location. I have another surfing beach up the road that takes 5 minutes to get to too.

I can't actually see the sea from my house but its only literally 5 mins walk away .
I know what you mean about the difficulties of being away from waves. I moved to Bristol for a year and had to leave cos it sucked for being too far from the waves - even tho the nearest breaks were better than where I live now(Gorleston), because it took 1 1/2 hrs to get from front door to waves I'd prefer to live nearer to sh*t waves than further from better waves.

And I also check net sites for same reasons as Brent, plus I don't actually surf at my local beach much as its usually better a little further along the coast.

I live around 60 miles away which is about a 1 1/2 hour drive away from my nearest beach which is worth going to so i do rely a lot on forecasts and reports. Id love to live nearer the sea but i still do my best to go at least once a week sometimes 2 girlfriend and condition permitting. Its always worth the drive though once you get there and see some lovely waves just begging to be surfed! Plus the drive there isnt really to bad so long as youve got a good cd collection.

I live literally 10 seconds walk from the beach (practically on it) - but it aint a surf beach - the nearest surf beach is like 250 miles away - absolutely gutted

I live at Silver Stran Beach in Oxnard California, I can see the beach from my living room, walk out my front down four houses and from there it's about 50 yards to the water depending on the tide. We have had "all time" surf for the past couple of weeks. Off-shore winds with 4ft to 8ft+ sets with good shape, stand-up green room barrels. Gotta love it. The day after Thanksgiving I got wacked in the head with my own board and am just getting over the concusion. Man I havent been wacked in a long time it's amazing how hard surf boards are. I guess I need to practice late take-off's a bit more.

i live far enough away for it to never be too bad to go out. if im by the sea i surf evryday. even if its so bad its just pushing into shoremush. and ill do it for more than 2 hours.

i live 5 miute walk from a real crappy beach ,and 20 minutes to some of cornwalls best know beaches eg;praa sands/porthleven/sennen cove/gwithian/porthmeoer and around an half hour drive to new quay even though i have not yet botherd with newquay , so im pretty well caterd for surfing just nowwhere to get a decent curry round here ......

I must be incredibly selfish -I'd never let a boyfriend get in the way of my surfing!

Single at the moment (surprise surprise after that comment!) but the next 'prospect' will be informed fairly early on that my surfing will come first. -There's only a small few days that are perfect and when they are I want to be there.

Of course if he's a surfer it's just ideal.

I live 15-20 mins to closest break and 25/30 and 40 to the beaches where I usually surf. I'm out 5-7 days spring-autumn (swell depending) and 3 times per week in winter.

Hey Irishgirl I would love to hook-up with a babe that surf's then I wouldn't have some kinda guilt trip goin on when I go enjoy the ol'mighty Ocean, the guilt trip wreck's it. "People who don't surf don't get it" I just got out of the water it is 4ft to 6ft with ex shape and a nice 10 to 15 kt off shore wind and the air temp is around 75 deg ya gotta love it. Late

The guilt trips can be pretty bad alright, and yeah people don't understand! You have to be there before mid tide/high tide in some beaches and people don't understand what difference an hour would make if they're asking me for a lift.
