If you know what you need to do for the tests then you don't need our help. You've already got a target to work towards. Can't do breast stroke? get yourself down to the local swimming pool and get learning :-D.

Join a club. No matter how good you think you are, a club swimmer will blow you away . . . go eat humble pie and learn from scratch at your local pool.

I used to be a lifeguard and agree with the above. You have a target and know what you have to do, learn your B/stroke and get very fit. You have to stay in peak physical shape as people's lives will rely on you every day. It is a great and rewarding job and you will love it. Good luck.
