!!LOCALISM!!

Postby k mac » Mon Nov 22, 2004 5:56 pm

Has anybody bin hearing about the bad localism being kicked of recently around cornwall because some twat sprayed on certain harbour wall "locals only " in giant red letters .these same people (apparently the same people are now starting a campaign aroun cornwall and paticulary newquay that if you aint a local you gonna get abused till you get out of the water because they are sick of tourists comin and crowding there breaks ,where the grafiti has been done people have recently had to get out the water coz of beer glasses and bottles being thrown at them having there cars done over nice and proper also at gwithian 2 non local surfers were beaten up badly and one had stichs on the face some where , dosent this show to people outside the surfing world that we surfers apparently so chilled and relaxed are bein aggresive and thugs i think somthin needs to be done about this and quickly before it gets worse , (also its kinda ironic that the original grafitisit who sprayed "locals only" on the harbour wall at a place i will not name but youll probly find it on the web if you look it up,have kicked of a big press thing and now have only brought more attention to the exellent harbour wall reefs waves which are sum of the best waves in cornwall sorta back fired didnt it ) - Your views anyone <<

hmm but there are some pretty scary locals around ... i mean there are places where you just dont go. i think some ppl take this stuff a little too seriously - locals and media alike.

hmmm localism..... one of the most argued topics in surfing next to "has the soul gone out of surfing"

I dont exactly condone localism, but its understandable if your a local and you have your homebreak constantly crouded with people who dont even surf there regularly.
