Hoping for a warm and sunny weekend. But, no matter what, it's good as long as there are waves.

I don't think it will be webcast or broadcast, Gabe. The event is not very large, although all the surf luminary turn out. Many even surf the heats. I'll report later if I find out there will be webcast, however.

Thanks for the update billie. All the locals will really appreciate not being able to surf the first decent swell in a while because there's a comp on :-D

It's on! See Saturday, March 2, highlights video. You'll get to see a little bit of the park and coast in the beginning. You'll get to see surfing legend Bobby Martinez at the end.

Waves were few in the early morning and later afternoon heats. Although not as large as usual, waves in between morning and afternoon were well-formed and plentiful.

My neighbor and his 14 year old son failed to advance to Sunday's finals. One surfed in the morning and one surfed in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, the winners in their heats were largely determined by whichever surfer caught one or two of the only waves. Still, it was a good experience for the family. The little daughter turned out to be knowledgeable about tide pools and taught me things I did not know.
