New: learning

Hello there!

Im gonna make this short, I'm gonna be taking surfing lessons in Cabarete, DR.

This will be my first time, any tips? How to prepare? how long till I will be able to ride a wave :D

Leave your ego at home. Learning to surf is a humbling experience. You might be a champ skater or boarder or captain of a sports team. But you will still need a big board. You will fall off a lot. You will flail around in the shallows for several hours. You will
look silly. Some 12 yr old girl or 50yr old fat guy will advance faster than you.

Actually, my main tip is that when you paddle for a wave, paddle hard and commit. Paddle tentatively and you will fail or perl.

How long until first (unbroken/green) wave? It really depends on the waves. Small soft waves, maybe 1-2hrs. Larger beach breaks, maybe 25hrs. And it may then take an hour before you catch your second wave.

Yep, try to enjoy every bit, every little improvement no matter how small. And dont forget your suncream, if you are enjoying it you will be in the water a while :)
