Surfboards on the bus (Cornwall area)

Postby cornwallsurfer » Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:17 pm

This question is mainly aimed at those surfing in Cornwall, or the UK, but feedback from anybody from all corners of the globe would be pretty awesome too :)
Anyway, basically I have no way of getting to the beach (I only live about 30 minutes away from the closest surfing beach, but I'm only 15) without getting a lift from somebody- be it my parents or someone else. However I am bored with relying on when other people are free to take me to the surf, I'm frustrated at missing great surf, and am frustrated about how infrequently I go.
Therefore, I am planning on making a few trips to the beach on the bus. (Using the company Western Greyhound of First Great Western) I have researched about the rule on taking surfboards on the bus from each of the two companies websites, concluding that the answer is yes surfboards are allowed at the drivers discretion.

I was merely wondering if anybody had any experience or advice concerning surfboards on the bus, and whether it's a good idea or not?

Thanks for your time. :D

That's always a bit of a worry :!:

My experience, mostly of being on the bus rather than the one with the surfboard, the world over, has been that most bus drivers will let the board on the bus (assuming its not a 12ft log) unless the bus is crowded, and then you're on your own
