What have you sacrificed for your surfing?

Postby jaktequila » Sun Sep 16, 2012 10:46 am

I would like to hear your stories.

1.How old are you and what is your occupation?
2.How long have you been surfing for?
3.What have you sacrificed for your surfing so far?
4.According to question 3, do you have any regret?

I'm going to start off with myself.
1.25, student
2.Nearly 2 years
3.Two part time jobs, one college course, most friends, nightlife, some money, weekends, and holidays.
4.Just one. I should've finished that course.

What about you? :D

-Mid 30's VFX artist
-coming up on 2 years
-sacrificed sleeping in but that's really about it. Surfing has enriched my life more than anything. Though the wife is tired of hearing me talk about it. LOL Nightlife might take a little hit since I head to bed earlier to get up before dawn for the nice glassy conditions that only last about an hour or two.
-I have one regret: that I didn't move closer to the ocean a long time ago!

I sacrificed soccer, well sort of. As I got older my body took longer to recover from tough matches, so one time I played two games in a row and got really banged up, so much so that I could barely walk. Well the next day there was a big swell and all I could do was watch it, too hurt to surf, and that is when I gave up playing soccer. I later played goalie on an indoor soccer team but never got to my goal scoring shape, but got really good on my cutbacks...

1.How old are you and what is your occupation?

42 and having just been made redundant from my job I'm going back to being a temp (office admin and factory work). More time for travel and surfing!

2.How long have you been surfing for?

I've just taken it up again after an absence of 14 years. Being extremely rusty, I am considering myself a beginner again, so I'll say 1 month which is when I got back into it again.

3.What have you sacrificed for your surfing so far?

Money. I have no family so I didn't need to make any sacrifices in that respect.

4.According to question 3, do you have any regret?

Just being away from it for too long. WTF did I give it up?! But life got in the way.

1. 40, I'm a self employed webmaster & SEO consultant. I run a couple of websites, including this one.
2. I first surfed 20 years ago, but have drifted in and out over that time depending on life circumstances.
3. Not really.
4. When I'm out surfing, I sometimes regret not having taken it more seriously over the last 20 years, I'd be a damn sight better than I am now  I enjoy it though, and it's not a big regret.

1- 35, run a surfcamp at a place where i can surf everyday. 4 years now.
2- started surfing at 18, but beause of studies and work i really got into it like 5 years later, ths is when i started leaving things and making myself more time so i can surf more.
3- friends, girlfriends, jobs, living in spain (with work and girlfriend), once i traded a broken down kombi van for 7 boards and a wetsuit...hahah....kinda regret that....but that's how I started my quiver, now I have over 30 boards, which i rent, buy/sell.
4- regrets... why didn't I start this business a lot sooner!! hahah...
