Theres these little jumping fish out there!

Postby myBOARDhitsME » Thu Nov 04, 2004 6:30 pm

Down at San Onofre, I often see these little fish that come out of the water, and look as if their gasping for a big gulp of air. And sometimes they even jump out of the water! :!: :!: :o

I usually see them when im sitting on my board in the lules, waiting for a good set to come in.

I'm just very curious to what they could be!

I also think it's funny to imate them... :P

can anyone tell me what these silly jumping air gasping fish could be???

THANKS!!

umm 'my fathers a fisherman, my mom a fishermans friend' (paul simon quote :D ) well as that says, i know a lot about these. the could be lots of things, usually there bait fish, could be makeral... or like 5 other types of fish, depending on where you are.
but usually it means that there are fish underneath.
if your dont see any big fish breaking the surface, and its just the little fish, that means that its generally stripped bass. however if you do see a huge splash, it means that its generally blue fish, which could be painful if they see your foot as a bait fish. sometimes blue fish and striped bass work together to get it.
If you see that, grab a fishin rod and some bait and go for a little fish.

a couple weeks ago while paddling through whitewash on a good 7 foot day, a small (maybe 7 inches from head to tail) fish jumped out infront of my and landed on my face.

in texas we got redfish that chase shad all over the place, it looks like its raining fish at some times. Its funyn to watch because sometimes they go like three or four feet straight up, then come back down onto another fish that just jumped.
