Hi and a question

Postby kree8or » Mon May 28, 2012 1:30 pm

Hi, I live on south coast , hayling island if you need spcefics, and I was wondering if there are any decent spots near me for surfing? I've heard boscombe can be ok, but the artifical surf reef is much good.
My problem is that I don't have transport, so need to get to the places by public transport.
Any ideas?

Hi kree8or, welcome to Surfing Waves!

Depends what you mean by decent. Hayling Island can get decent waves, but as you probably know it's pretty inconsistent. Across the water there's the Witterings, which both get surf. The Isle of Wight, good waves.

Basically though, if you want more consistency and better waves, you'll need to head west. There are lots of surfers on the south coast, you might be able to sort out a lift with someone.

On the right sort of day you can choose between boscombe or bournemouth, highcliffe is closer, but im not sure if there is any public transport to there. The south coast tends to be a bit naff most of the time but whe its good it can be pretty good. Quite inconsistent. There is a surf shop in Boscombe called sorted surfshop. The are always happy to answer any questions and wil e more than happy to give you a surf report.
Cheers Tj

Hi Tj, Thanks for the advice, its pretty easy to get to bournmouth (one train from havant) and if going to boscombe, its just a bus from the bournmouth train station. God , I need a car lol

Bracklesham kinda works - but it doesn't work at high tide at all, so make sure you've planned your timing right and check the tides.
It needs a big swell in the atlantic to work, so summer isn't the best time for Bracklesham (or much of the south coast).

Yes, you need a car
