Hello from a newbie, and question about an injury!

Hi all, I used to use this forum quite a lot years ago but can't remember my old username; good to be back though :)

Four months ago I ruptured a ligament in my mid foot, called a 'Lisfranc fracture' (fell down some steps after too many beers, doh!). I had a couple of screws put in as I had a few displaced bones, have been non weight bearing since then, and am about to have the metal work removed on Monday. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with something similar as I would like to know how long it took before they had enough use of their foot to surf again? I've been going off my head with boredom on crutches and have spent 4 months dreaming of getting back on my board! Maybe I'll have to body board for a while :?

Cheers for any insight,

Bamble

Wow, you've done yourself a rarity 1 in 55,000 foot injuries. I had to go to my orthopedic texts to even know what you were talking about. When you have the metal removed, talk with the Doctors openly about your wish to return to standing surfing! Hopefully they can put you on to a physiotherapist who specialises in sports injuries ,often the best are associated with a football club. Football and basketball along with Irish dancing is where this injury most often occurs. There are some issues that need to be considered,

The bone needs to be able to heal and the blood supply needs to be at its fullest, hopefully that is OK.
Ask if there is any risk of Avascular Necrosis in the effected area and what that means to your recovery.
There is also some risk of nerve damage and later arthritis, so getting a clear rehabilitation plan will lessen your chance of later problems.

Not all good news but, it is amazing what people can recover from!
