leash length?

Postby freaky_welsh_chick » Sun Feb 22, 2004 1:00 pm

how long should your legrope be in comparison to your board? i just bought a new leash (with a swivel!) and its 2m long but when i got home i realised my old leash was longer, like 2.4 m. my board is 7'3", and i don't know whether its because im used to a longer rope, or that it actually is too short, cos it felt like i kept tuggin on the leash too much when i wiped out. should i go back to my old, longer leash, which has no swivel and trips me up, or keep with this shorter 1, with swivel, which doesnt trip me even half as much? thanks

Kylie x

(i thought i'd add a poll just for fun, lol)

my board is 7'2 and i use a 6' leash

i do get it twisted around me a lot, but i thought it was because i am goofy and right handed...

i didnt have any major problem with my leash, and i like...

surfboard leash length

In general the bigger the board the longer the legrope. For your 7'3" board a 2 metre leash is fine. There is no problem with a bit of a tug on the leg, and you will get this with any board and any length leash.
Benefits of a shorter leash are that there is less drag in the water when you are paddling and riding - which is good, and also a if you come off your board it is quicker to get back onto it and paddling out again with a shorter leash.

So short is good (as long as it is not too short ;D)

i don't know if short is all that good... easier to come back and pop you in the noggin... i think the leash should be the same length as the board...

I dunno, for me it depends on what I am surfing I have a tank that I use for tow in but those waves are all wind drawn and are stacked instead of in sets and I like a longer leash, but when I am in Daytona on short or long I like my leash to be slightly short. I guess I go by the type of wave.

you get towed in a 15 foot wave?? edit... you can just paddle into that thing with one arm. People get towed in a 35foot wave...like maverick....

it really depends on what are you gona do on a baord and the proper use. Long board you walk on it thus you need a longer leash or a kneee leash. Get a 8-9 feet perhaps 10 if you want to easily hang 10

Short board doesn't matter I have a 6.10 and I use a 7 feet leash
