I have had a 5'6" al merrick pod and its helped me to be able to stand up and ride the line but i cant really do anything else. Im looking for a more performance board. I dont know much about boards but i want it to have speed. I live in Virginia Beach and on good days its only 2-3. I am 5'10 and 140 pounds. Can you help me out with what board to get?

1. Hello.
2. Stop repeat posting.
3. If you can't turn a 5'6 board, you certainly don't need a higher performance board.

Hello. How long have you been surfing? How long have you had this board?

get a solid epoxy minimal with a decent set of fins. this will also give you a greater riding time on a wave to help with turning. FCS MR TFX, H-2 (medium or large), H-3 nexus or PC CRV thruster set. these will increase all aspects of performance by lifting the tail up, a larger fin increases speed, and hold in the turn. the arc is quite large compared to a shortboard, but it gives great performance. you will be surprised how much difference a decent set of fins will give.

depending on how much experience of surfing you have, you could always go for a Rusty Piranha maybe a 6ft6 or a nice big wide retro board. both of these with the right setup will have massive amounts of speed, good balance and good turning ability.

Regards,

Tj

Hi tallen757, welcome to Surfing Waves!
You've not provided full details, but it sounds like the pod should be just fine for you. Do you think it's the board holding you back? or perhaps you could work on your technique a bit more to gain some extra speed.
