anyone wanna teach a blondie?

Hi everyone, I am learning, and struggling because I have no one to go with me! Is there anyone in the witterings/bournemouth area that I can meet up with that can give me a few pointers, or just want to come out and have a laugh? :D

Before the summer I had a lesson in bournemouth and loved it, and I have been trying to surf all summer with limited success. I work shifts in a hospital so am limited to when I can go, and everytime I do get out its either flat or really really windy (recently). I had a great week in cornwall, and would love to go on daytrips to croyde/north devon if anyone is going? I am crap at the moment, but really want to get better. My friend took some pics of me having ago down in sennen... they are on my profile bit on here if anyone wants to have a nosey :)

Anyway, anyone out there I can surf with?

Gracie

Hi from another noob!

Recently started learning and would like to go more often but nearest place for me is a (nearly) 3 hour drive. I did find a couple of good schools in North Devon, maybe they can help? They seem to have all inclusive lessons, ie., wetsuits + boards + instruction at what seem to be good prices. Maybe you could go down and see if they'll let you have kit for an extra few hours?

There are some people on site who surf the Witterings It may not help as as far as I know from Australia, i don't think they work as often.
By the way your pics show you are making a good start, keep at it as often as you can.

Oh, I'm in Nottingham. Would head down North Devon way but it's still a 4 hour drive. May try and freeze to death in November!

I used to surf the witterings. A few pointers...
Surf bracklesham, rather than the harbour entrance or the wittering beaches - its easier and less locals.
It only really works in winter.
It only really works at low to mid tide.
It only works on a BIG south westerly swell.
It doesn't really work  Sorry, sorry - just kidding, its an okay place to learn, but Im used to better things now 8)

Wow do you get good waves everyday?

Oh thanks I will go have a look at bracklesham tomorrow. Its looking really windy this week, when is it too windy to surf? I have had days where I have tried but found it really hard just to stay on the same beach, cos Im getting blown sideways!

I like Porthcawl as its quite close and waves were good for the beginner. There is board hire available, and car parking too. Only downside was there was no life guard or supervised sessions, so I don't feel able to go on my own. But worth a go I think

Hey Gracie.

I'm Southampton based and surf wittering when there's a wave (weekends only due to work). Am happy to hook up some time and give you some pointers. I'm not the best surfer but been surfing about 8 years so have a few tips I could pass on.

Let me know if you're up for a session some time.
