wax getting dirty?

Postby bamf64 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 7:30 pm

I have noticed that the wax on my shortboard gets black and dirty super quick..why?? This is like 3 days of surfing every morning..and i dont even stand on the spots where it is black(except the trac. pad)!

ooooooooooooooohhhhhhh...so dirty..

Also it seems like the wax layer is really thin. Ill be re-waxing it anyways so should i do 1 full pack (2 bars) of basecoat and 1 pack(2 bars) of regular wax? or more?

Wish my missus was as dirty as your wax  *

As long as your feet still stick then the wax is ok. its just asthetic and if your surfing a lot you'll get very fed up of rewaxing every 3 sessions very quickly.

as for how much to use, again if you have grip then theres enough wax. i would suggest that a full pack of bascoat and a full pack of top coat would be more than enough, maybe even too much. I dont tend to use basecoat but it can be useful.

* ps really i just wish i had a missus.

If you want your board to stay cleaner longer put on a good base wax on, and don't use the super soft waxes. If the water is cold try using a cool water wax instead of cold water wax because the cool is a little harder and less sticky. The harder wax (warmer temp) will not pick up the dirt as much. If you really want to keep your board cleaner, use a warm water or tropical wax as they are harder yet and therefore less sticky. Our water temp here in Oregon is about 50-55 degrees and I use a tropical base wax like Really Tacky with a cold water top coat and it stays fairly clean and still grips good with a good wax job.

Good Luck!

PS Nice board!

I find myself always using tropical and wax and feeling guilty about it. I just feel that it makes a tackier surface, and whenever I use a warm or cold wax my butt melts and smudges the area I sit on.

Exactly! A harder wax last longer and does not mat down as quickly. It takes a little longer to apply a good tropical wax, but the bumps last.
