Ive got a hug problem. I am only 14 and want to start surfing. It looks really fun and just looks like an adrenaline rushing sport plus i love being in water and live by the shore. The most logical thing to do is start off with a few lessons of course so i dont hurt myself and dont invest in money that goes into waste. My problem here is if i do leanr how to surf and enjoy it i need to find a way to get money to buy a board; and not only that over here people surf year round so i would need wet suits and much more gear and accessories. My parents cant just give me that kind of money for a longboard. I know i dont need an amazing long board as im a begginner but i still cant rack up that much money. and i cant get a job till next year. I have alot of friends that surf but i dont think they can just give me a board liek that. Any advice/help?

When I was 12 years old, I did odd jobs for my Grandma and my aunt and made enough money to buy my first used surfboard. You could ask around and do the same, or do yard work to earn some money. I would then look for some good used surf equipment at a good price. If you really want it you can make it happen. It may mean some hard work though!
Good Luck!

Good advice but my parents arent the "chores" type of parent that would give me money. I could probably wait for my birthday which is what i am planning to do. How much would a used but good longboards cost along wit come surf equipment?

Hi Tahmid, since the chore thing isn't going to work ( have you asked? Really?) I'd be looking around the surf shops that may be near, learn about good used boards and other equipment.
It's really hard to give you prices because we are posting from so many different countries.
Surfing is also a hands on sport, go look get to learn the stuff that's around, the net will only give you semi answers but not experience.
Cruise ebay or whatever the equivalent is in your country to get the idea.

If you are based in the UK, then check this site out
secondhandboards.com
Negotiate before you buy is the price is too high for what you get. Just search there and you will get an idea of the general price you want to be paying. Remember that most of the good boards/ bargains go fast so the boards listed for more than 2 months or so are generally less value for money (at listed price).

I would say to do chores for neighbours and see if they can pay and save up as well as b-day money too. Or Christmas money if possible

I believe there might be some threads on it. There are some beginner boards though if memory serves they only last so long before one gets bored and they don't offer much. Long boards can be good too if I remember. The short boards are for tricks and speed I think

Yea all my friends are telling my to get a longboard as it is the best for beginners because its easier to catch and pop-up on a wave. And i solved my problem. A friends older brother that has surfed for years now has so many boards. He has one of his first longboards. Its in great condition and only a few repairs was done. Hes selling me the board, fins, traction pad, and leash all for 150$. Good price right? And ill go ahead and look at some threads.
