Hi all, I am new to the forums but I have been in and around the boards reading topics for a while. A bit of a background about me, I currently live in Scotland, I lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for 10 years where I did all my surfing, I haven't braved it in Scotland yet but who knows.

I am going to Portugal this summer (June 7- June 24th) mainly to go surfing. The place we are located is about an hour north of Lisbon.

I would like to know, preferably from people who have been around Portugal at this time of year, if you would recommend a shortie or a full wetsuit? I much prefer to wear shorties, I like the flexibility and sometimes I get a bit claustrophobic in full wetsuits. However, I don't want to end up too cold to enjoy the surf and wish I had just bought a full wetsuit, because I have heard that the Atlantic can get quite cold around Portugal. When I was in Brazil I alternated between a shortie and boardshorts/rash vest and I was fine.

What would you guys recommend, also, what thickness of wetsuit would be ideal?

For me (I surf Gower, UK), 19 degrees is positively toasty! I would probably go in with just a rash and shorts.

I would personally go for a shortie, you might get a bit hot (in the sun) in a full 3mm. Then again you save money on suncream (and time) with a full wetty, things to consider!

Thanks for your response, well a small reason I would rather a shortie is so I can get some tan (I live in north of Scotland, there isn't much opportunity for it :) ) CAn anyone help me who has been to Portugal in the Summer to give me a better idea?
