surfer with bad eye sight

Hi
My aye sight is not that good any more. When I surf I can not see the who is who among the other surfers, and it is sometimes difficult to see the sets coming in.

I have bought a box of soft cobtact llences. 24 hour type. So If I lose them it is no problem.

Now one optician think it is a good idea, an other say it is a bad idea, because there is a danger og getting aye infection if there is some sort of bugs in the water.

Anybody have experience.

I also have a pair of Seaspecs. nThey are with lenses to match my ayes. Anybody uses these while surfing??

Cheers Torben

I've been surfing in contacts for 15 years now. I wont go out without them. I've had the occasional scratch and one or two minor infections, but nothing too bad, not even certain they were from the ocean anyway, i wear them all day every day.

Totally doable, just keep your eyes closed and if you get splashed toss the lens after the sesh. Eye doc advice varies widely; like anything else in medicine: go with the ones that value enjoying life :)

How do you like the sea specs? I'm thinking about picking some up for kiting as sunglasses. i can't imagine they would work well for surf, i've never seen them in a linup...

The sea specs are good. I ordered them on line from US. The very curved "glass" distorts the vision some however. I am afraid that they will break and cut the aye area when surfing. Therefore I am not using them surfing.

I opted to get LASIK surgery after trying to surf with contacts. World of difference for me.

Seaspecs and Silverfish are the same thing and distributed on opposite US coasts. I use Silverrish with perscription lenses.

Obviously it's a lot more expensive than a pack of soft contact lenses, but I agree with you.
I used to surf in contact lenses, and like you, got the surgery. Best money I've ever spent. I've had 10 years of great eyesight.
