See video at link. Volcom had a contest that whoever would be 1st to do this will win $10K, be on the cover of TransWorld Surf Magazine, and have 2-page story in same magazine. The winner and surfer in the video is Santa Cruz's Zoltan Torkos. He did it at Steamers Lane. (Oh, how I miss surfing at Santa Cruz!)

Now that people see it is possible, a lot more people are going to try it and a lot more people are going to learn how to do it and then someone else is going to try do a bigger trick and then people will see that a bigger trick is possible etc etc :O It's going to be a surfing revolution! In like 10 years time we're going to be tre-flipping and heel flipiing! :P

I had a read through some of the comments, there seems to be some disagreement as to whether he qualifies for the 10K, and there is no official announcement from Volcom at http://www.volcom.com/blogs/blog.asp?blogID=17

He shouldn't get the money, the kickflip had to be out of the wave, like a legit air to kickflip. Not just a chop hop kickflip.

OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR VOLCOM STONE'S $10,000 KICKFLIP-OFF CONTEST! READ CAREFULLY!

"3. The kickflip must be a real air "above the lip" - No backwash, No chop hops, or anything in the flats or below the lip of the wave."

Either way - that's some trick

As I said before, it really looks amazing, but I think he could better lift his board a little so that the trick seems more 'real'.

Volcom are now offering $20K for a 'proper' kickflip:

Volcom is giving away $20,000 to the first person that can land a "proper" kickflip while surfing! By proper we mean an "above and off the lip" kickflip where first you bottom turn, launch an air, use your front foot to flip the board, and then land on it and ride out cleanly. No chop hops, backwash, fingerflips, grabs or laybacks. Just a proper kickflip. We're going to be strict on these following guidelines. The rules are all listed here, so get out there and put this trick in the history books. Good luck!

Lols. They gave the guy the $10k but then they still kinda give him a backhand slap :P I'm sure he'll go for this anyway. Would be awesome if he won the "legit" one as well just as a big "screw you guys, talking sh*t bout my kickflip!" :P

Considering you usually have less glass on the bottom of your board, I'm guessing practising for this he put his foot through it a few times when it landed the wrong way up. I'm guessing he would have stood on the fins a few times too... OUCH!
