Hi, I am planning to take the kids and the dog to Wales to learn to surf this year. We are new to surfing the kids are 8 and 13. Does anyone have any advice or recommends on where is the best place to go. I am concerned about safety so would prefer a beach with lifeguards, we were originally thinking about France but I've heard that French beaches don't generally have life guards - is this true? Any recommendations on Welsh surf schools and beaches where dogs are allowed?
Many thanks
Barry

barry,
glad you, your kids, and your dog are stoked for surfing! I really hope the UK guys involved in this forum come through with recommendations for you because it is for a good cause.

In the meantime, if you can get your children into some regular swimming lessons, they'll have a lot more fun when learning to surf and you won't have to worry so much about them in the water.

Newgale, Pembrokeshire is good. They have lifeguards there and there is a surf hire place down the one end of the beach. Also a campsite across the road.

Here's a link to the surf hire place:

Here's a google maps link:

Not sure who runs the campsite. HTH.
