Other places than Kuta in Bali for inexperienced surfer?

Postby Sailfish » Sun Oct 10, 2010 2:26 pm

Hi!

I have been bodyboarding on a artificial wave in Norway for about 8 years now and have just moved to Bali. I started to practice ordinary surfing on Kuta beach about 4-5 weeks ago. I have rented a 7"4' mini mal on the beach. Since I now started to get bored of the mini mal I just bought my first 6"8' shortboard. I tried it for the first time today on Kuta beach and it was very fun to ride.

The thing is that I feel that the crowd at Kuta beach is starting to get very annoying and also the dirty water... Therefor I was wondering if there were any other good places for me to surf?
I have read a bit about Senseh, and thinking perhaps on Dreamland also. Do you think either is a good choice?
I have a motorcycle, so no problem to drive a bit :)

I live in Jimbaran, between Kuta and Dreamland.

Yeah, I know where it is! :)
So you think Balangan is better for me than Dreamland?
What is the difference between them?

When is it best on balangan? high, medium or low tide?

Thanks!

I think it is the easier wave to surf since I remember it being really mellow plus that is what a friend of mine (who also lives in Bali) told me . Better check with the locals about the tides, I just went there once. Here is a picture and I guess it was high tide

just make sure you catch the wave out at the point because I reckon it get's shallower down the beach. Easy paddling out and nice hanging out there...

Okey, first trip to Balangan resulted in a damaged nose...
Not so bad though, will get it fixed tomorrow. An easy fix I think :)
We were there at low tide, so I`m sure that is why it was more dangerous. Will try there again on higher swell and higher tide :D
