Is San Onofre mellow at 5-8 feet for a newer surfer?

Hey All,

I have been surfing for about 3 months now, and I usually go surfing a couple times a week. I ride a 7'8" funboard, and I usually ride 2-4 feet waves in San Clemente, CA. For those of you from the Southern California area, I'm sure you all know there is the SSW groundswell moving in. I was checking the forecast on Surfline and it says that it's going to be 5-8ft at San Onofre tomorrow morning. I've surfed San O once before, and the waves were pretty mellow- not too steep, broke slowly, etc. and were 2-4ft. I know I wouldn't be able to surf 5-8ft at any other beach in San Clemente, but since San O is pretty mellow waves, do you think it'd be rideable for me? I feel like I'd be able to especially since if I eat it, because the waves break slowly, I won't get pounded. But I just wanted to get some opinions from people who have surfed San O in 5+ feet waves. Thanks!

no its a great place. I've surfed 9ft waves there and at first the drop in gives you crazy speed but then you get use to it. san o is one of my fav on the big days. i might see you from churches haha
