Surfing Waves

so im learning to surf. i have a months time left and have reached a point where i can roughly catch waves...but with all the other dudes here it is an excercise in patience.

there are three breaks i can surf here. a left, right, and small beach break. The locals told me that the small beach break is where they learned to surf, so i went there and it is my favourite. the catch is that it only cranks when the tides right, and the ride is about 2 secs...but you get a xxxxx load of (small) waves that teach you how read a beach break, and takeoff in the direction right of the start.

Th right break is hit and miss.Its either big or non existant. Sucks cause im regular foot but i dont really care.Its sweet cause the locals all warn the kooks to stay away cause of the rocks....but i realized that i could surf it...went there and caught the sweetest waves to date.

The left is always packed, but always has waves.But now that i can grab waves with some consistency i can begin to practise turning and all that jazz...but at the same time how to battle it out in a crowd.

What should my priority be? I need to maximize my time!haha

priority is fun. i sometimes catch 3 waves if i'm lucky on the big days(5-6ft) but they are worth the wait. if you really want to learn to turn you need to take the long waves on the crowded area. But it sounds like that shore break has some more life in it than 2 seconds so i'm thinking do you know how to pump4speed on a wave? it can be done on shore breaks but its sometimes hard to catch up and eventually you will get eaten.i would say get the crowded area. the wave quality sounds like its nicer too than shorebreaks

went the the left point break today....im getting eaten alive. seriously there like three dudes goin for each wave.

who gets way on a point break--
when two surfers are inline equally, the dude farther out or the dude closer in?
Sometimes guys cut infront so close that they make you have to stop completey to let them pass....this is normal?
are there any threads on the lineup technique(and assholes that you find)? (seriously this forum is REALLY hard to search cause there is too many common words or sthng like that)

Sometimes dudes decide to go for a wave then almost fly over you as they quickly turn and fire the afterburners. Then when i decide to do the same noone moves outta the way.

it all comes with practice and patience. Once you start surfing there move you will learn about the take off zones and find the best spots to wait at. the rule on line up varys place to place but its whoever is deepest from the side that breaks gets it. in other words

X= person1
Y-person2

Wave

Person X has the right of way, but if the break has a right side as well then they should split it.

Simplest explanation is that the guy who is closest to the pocket has priority. If it is a left point and you are facing the shorethe guy to your right has priority on you and a guy to the left of you does not have priority on either of you.
Farther out or in has no bearing.

Lookin back a couple of weeks ago when I had my first go at surfing! I now understand why every other surfer was giving me dirty looks
