Hi, my name is alex, im 23 and im from north california. Im new to the forum and new to surfing. I have only surfed once. I was about 13 years old when i tried. Its been a while so i can remember much about the experiance other then it was fun. I dont think i ever got to standing up.

Any way, 10 years later i buy a baja bug from a friend of mine and he throws in this beat up surfboard with the deal. He tells me it from the 60's and it has just been around his house for a while. A few days ago i decide i wanted to start to get it in working condition. So if i could get some help or pointers from any one that would be really great

Here's some pics:
(if im posting this in the wrong spot please tell me. I found this forum 20 min. ago and im on my lunch break so im kind of in a hurry)

Here is what i have done to the board so far. I sanded around this hole until i was almost to the fiberglass matt then i put some resin in the hole and then laid down a small squished up bundle of fiberglass matt into the hole. Then i covered the entire hole with a flat piece of fiberglass matt and covered that with more resin.

Any help would be really nice with this project. Even if you tell me im posting in the wrong spot.
Thanks.

Aloha Alex!
Glad to know you are going to surf.
My regular places in NorCAL, before moving to Santa Barbara were Santa Cruz, Bolinas and Dillon Beach in Marin County, Dillon Beach in and Caspar Creek in Mendocino County. You could find me at one of these locations on nearly every Saturday.
Oh, the board looks good enough to get into the water right away.

Thanks billie. I dont think i would put it in the water yet. It has a few holes in it that are right through the fiberglass. the foam underneith is showing so im sure it would fill with water. I think im also going to need a wet suit to handle the temps around here. Dillion beach is about an hour from me. Im really close to Jenner and i see a few people out there catching a waves all the time. So i might try there when the board is ready.

Alex,
you are correct. If the foam is exposed through the fiberglass, you shouldn't take that board into the water. It's not a big deal to make patches.

I know Jenner, CA. That is getting up there in NorCAL. You're going to need a 4/3 suit for sure. You'll probably like to have booties and maybe a hood or hat. Even though that water is cold, I love it because it reminds me that I'm alive when I feel it. Hope you will, too.
