wrong board? possible ding?

Ladies and Gents,

Long time reader, first time poster... be gentle.

I've just bought a board, 7'8" hand shaped minimal (Graeme Bunt if memory serves correctly), to give you a picture i'm 6'2" and about 100kg - yes, I feel more at home on a rugby pitch than a board but I love it.

The questions are;

1. I'm used to riding Bic type boards about 7'10"ish, this one i've bought is a bit narrower, thinner and shorter but shouldn't be too much of a step up for a heffer like me should it?

2. There is a slight knock on one of the rails, circle shaped dent in with one edge looks broken (probably about 3mm long), it doesn't appear to have cracked through but is there anyway of telling? If it needs repairing is it something i can do easily or worth getting someone in a shop to look at it?

Just so you know, i'm heading to Polzeath on Sunday for a week, so sooner the better really!

Cheers

Si

Hi and welcome. Sounds like you'll be fine with that sized board and also unless the foam is showing or the ding is bad then you should be ok. If in doubt and you want to use it then cover it with some gaffa tape.
You can buy ding repair kits from surf shops and should be able to do it yourself. You can always post up some piccies on here and we can offer you advice.

Cheers for that, will stick a close up of it up later when I get home and no doubt you'll know better than I do as what's best.
