I'm 6'1 and 180pounds and I have a 6'3 shortboard. I'm a beginner and feel like I have to much dead weight on the board when I try to paddle for a wave in combination with newb paddling and pop up technique. Should I just work hard and grind this one out? OR would this be easier for my girlfriend to use, shes 5'1 and 135 and I get a larger board.

hate to burst your bubble but it's going to be too small for either of you. at least right now. you're both going to want longboards to start out. you could work your ass off on it and learn how to ride it, but based by the surfboard and your size, you're going to need some meaty waves to keep that thing moving. if you can take a few hours every day and halfway decent conditions all the time, you or your girlfriend could learn eventually. it would just be a lot faster, more fun, and easier to use a bigger board

Yeah.. throw that thing in the closet and get a couple meaty longer boards to learn on. Then when you are feeling frisky and there is some good swell, get that thing back out and go tear it up.
