Paddling Tips

Postby Beachbum » Sun May 02, 2010 5:53 am

I don't get to surf as much as I would like to (couple more weeks and then finals are over :woot: ), but until then, anyone have any tips on improving my paddle power?
Something I realized that helped me out a lot is waiting when you're on the inside with a set dumping on my head. I'll just sit around, duckdive the incoming white wash, and then paddle out easily without huffing and puffing. Another thing that I noticed is I need to build up a rhythm with my strokes, or I won't be going anywhere. Whenever I'm duckdiving a couple of waves, I sometimes feel like I'm moving backwards from the remaining whitewash, and unless I overcome that slight pull with my forward rhythm, I'm not going anywhere lol.

Here's a sticky from another forum. Check Nick Carroll's posts on it.
