I want to get out

Hi, my name is Tim, I'm 18 years old and I am currently in my first year of medical studies. Unless I think it's very interesting and though I've passed all my tests, I'm not sure whether I wanna continue or not. At least not next year. I'm thinking of taking a gap year and going to surf in Australia or some other hot places. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas how to make this happen. I hope there are some people here to give me some advice. Thanks!

Normaly I'd say , as your young, go have some fun & figure out who you are and what you want.

But damned. Med school, an opertunity very few will ever see, stick with it.

Study, get exams, get job, get paid then go surfing where you want when you want with no money worries and the best kit.

Enjoy.

Thanks. These judgements of surfers definitely influence my decision. I know med school is an exceptional opportunity which is given to only a few people. BUT if I succeed in passing all my tests this year (which is quite likely) I have also the opportunity to take a gap year and CONTINUE my studies afterwards. I just can't wait to get out of daily life and just see the world and surf for over a year. Like you said 'figure out who you are and what you want'!

However Merry Christmas everybody!! (I just got snowboarding for a few days with my dad and a Eau de Cologne of Abercrombie&Fitch)

^ Don’t do a gap year - you’ll lose the habit and sense of urgency of study and exams.
If you go straight through you’ll be in the money sooner and have a better surfing life after also.
Gap years are trendy, surfing really is a way of life - and that is about it in my opinion.
Trust me on this one.

take a small trip to a surf camp at half term, pal up with some guys, find any that are into a big trip, book some tickets and just fly. once you land, find somewhere to stay, when you wake up, find some waves, when youve surfed, eat, get pissed and laid, do that another 364 times, fly home, job done, brain expanded, soul sated, private parks aching. then do your studies. my tip is, youth is a mask, it doesnt last, so live it long and live it fast.
