Good luck with either, I'd go for no 2 at a push.

So, basically does this mean I'm screwed?

I really wanna go surfing soon but I just don't have the extra money to buy my own board just yet.

Means you have to keep looking on craigslist until you find something you can afford. Good luck

if you really must then the second one isn't that bad... you should be able to learn on it but it will be a LOT less fun than a cheap longboard and take you quite a while longer to start catching waves.
if you do go ahead and buy one i'd recommend a lesson or two so you know what you need to be doing roughly before you start the long and frustrating process of learning on the 7'1.
think you might be surprised how cheap you can pick up a more appropriate board if you look tho.

Yeah man, wait out til you have some funds to buy a more suitable board. Sure, you can buy one and go and get wet - but you'll be kicking yourself when you spend day after day watching people take off on your waves. Just keep looking at eBay and craigslist.

ookiecookie : If I lived by you or you came to me, you'd be surfing a toothpick by the end of the day !

Get a board and go for it !

Ok that's cool. So something more suitable would probably be like a funboard/longboard in the 7'6" or above range huh?

My avatar is my first ever surfboard - 6'2" and I have surfed it from mush to massive hurricane Hossegor. Only you know how much you will stick at something so if you have patience a shorter board is good - if you want to ride mellow quickly then get a long board.
Remember you also have to plan to get back and forth the beach too !

Esoncar does has a point. It's not impossible to learn on a short board. But one of those boards is a gun which won't be easy to turn on, let alone cut back on. The other is a shortboard shape that's quite big. I mean, sure, if you're a bigger guy and you need it why not? But it's just more fun to have a board that you can leanr on, turn on and burn on for a couple of years.

If you want to take Esoncar's advice, have a look at this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/66-Surfboard-shor ... 4cebc5d16a

I'm sure most people here will push you towards a 6" 8' - 7' 2" funboard shape, though. Me included.
