Surf and Music Fest

Postby SLCNotts » Wed Oct 28, 2009 7:54 pm

Hey guys, I'm a third year student at Nottingham Trent Uni, UK, and for my final project I'm looking at the launch of a surf/sports and music festival, and I'm just looking for some opinons and views on the topic. So if you could take a few minutes to just look and reply to a few questions or just reply on the topic in general, that would be great!

-Do you think there is room in the market for another sports/surf and music festival?

-What would you change about exhisiting events?

-What do you think of the way the events are advertised and marketed?

Any replies would be greatly appreaciated!!

there is always room for a good music/surf festival, i would like to see some more festivals towards the autumn when the swell actually starts to pick up and attracts more genuine surfers.
alot of the summer festivals seem to attract people who arent even into surfing and just looking for a free party. it also depends on the type of music you have, I.E. playing drum and bass or house music and having all night raves will attract alot of kids in kitted out novas but wont nessicarily attract the surfers.
i would also like to see some more festivals aimed at longboarders, or atleast be a bit more accomodating and have both longboarding and shortboarding competitions, trade shows etc,
keep it local, get some local shapers involved to showcase their products, local bands trying to make a name for themselves, etc...
as for advertising, keep your market in mind, is it more of a music festival with a few surfing comps on the beach or an all out surfing festival with a few bands playing? or a good balance of both? advertising is everything, get it right and you'll have the makings of an awesome festival that people will come back to year after year. get it wrong, and you could have organised the best festival since woodstock, but if no-one shows up, all that energy and effort is wasted.
make sure you let all of us on this website know whats happening and when, then im sure youll get some attendance!
hope this helps
