Will It Fit?

Postby Rogue_Shadow » Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:52 am

Hey

Just a quick question

How many of you put your surfboard IN your cars for transport and not on the roof?

Just curious as my next car is gonna be a lil more sporty and will not have any roof rack support.

But anyway... If you dont use the roof rack, what size board are you on and what do you drive?

This is were i Get answers like

9" and I drive a Artic lorry

Thanks :)

the longest board i surf is a 6'5 and i drive a peugeout 306 estate. can get it in with 3 passengers. if it helps a mate of mine has a mk1 Toyota MR2 and we used to go surfing in that all the time. soft racks at the front and back of the doors and 2 of us inside. pretty funny site really.

yea im using soft racks with my saxo at the moment, but its such a huge hassle! Id rather get good with my 7'2" then trade it in for somthing smaller so i can just fit it inside the car with a surf bag, than have to tie it to the roof. If im honest, I dont like soft tracks. I always drive and glance up to make sure the board hasn't flown behind me.

I drive an MX5 (Miata in the states) and have had a 7'6 mini mal in with no probs

Actually, seriously, with the roof up, a mate of mine fits a 6'0 quad inside, but no passengers and a lot of wiggling to get it in past the handbrake.

Otherwise I take the campervan, and fit a 6'1, 6'0, 6'2 and 7'4 plus a few wetsuits and some deck chairs plus it seats 3. :D

One 8' and two 7'ish boards will fit in my 3dr astra with two passengers if they don't mind getting cosy in the back.

A saxo is a hatchback right? In my Polo I wind down the passenger seat untill its nearly flat against the rear seats. The 7'6" slips in nicely through the boot door right down to where the front seat passanger would normally have their feet. I think the 7'2" would fit ontop of it easily, though I havent actually had both in at the same time. You can take out the rear seat headrests too and that helps.

Years ago 'we' had two short boards, a 6'2" and a 6’6'" in a Hillman Imp http://davidwblume.com/page3.htm !

I was in the back - and got changed into my steamer while my then surf pal was driving us to the beach !

I since bought a van and an estate for my quiver (up to 9'6")

Hahahahaaha - just found this - Will a soft Rack do ? ...............

I've been hitting the coast with a friend who drives a Honda Civic (90s). We put the passenger seat all the way back, and we lay his 7'2" and my 6'6" down. We take turns being chauffeur.

I driven a Volvo 240 wagon with a 9'6" in it before, and then my old Toyota Van (toaster, bread box, toyo van; whatever you want to call it) with 2 x 9'6"s, and about four other smaller boards in there.

My current car Volvo 240 kind of sucks for getting boards in and out, as the seats are on dials. But it fits nicely up to a 7'6"...
