Why do people like stand up paddling?

Personally I think its stupid and dosn't look fun at all, if anything dangerous. I've never tried it, but i doubt i would like it any more than a bodyboard. It seems like such more of hassle to carry to and from the beach. Its like a boat, i would much rather catch waves on a surfboard than a SUP(stand up paddle) So why do people like it?

It gives them something to do in really flat days, which is when I've seen guys bust out the SUP around these parts. I'd like to try it out, but I can't afford a stand up paddleboard.

(On a funny note, right when the page loaded up, there is a SUP ad right smack dab in the middle  )

personally id love to have one for just cruising up and down the beach on non surf days. But i wouldn't use it to actually do much surfing as if there are waves im surely gonna take out one of my other boards. But the price tag means ill go swimming on flat days

To be fair i dont care what people ride but unfortunately a lot of SUP or janitors cant control their boards worth a damn and are a hazard. I personally dont think they belong in the surf on days where there are lots of people and sum waves as its just an accident waiting to happen in the same respect that butt boarders dont belong in the line-up. But hey as long as you dont run me over i dont really care

I don't mind the SUPs that actually know what they're doing out there, but for those beginners-I dislike them! I had to duck dive a raging elephant board in the whitewash due to a beginner on a crowded day. A friend of mine had his skin on his skull sliced from a SUP who accidentally hit him in his head with a paddle.. Yeah, those SUPs are dangerous.

some surf, some bodyboard, some SUP, to each his own. For example, I don't longboard except for 2 or 3 times a yearm, but I have fun doing it, just not my preference. To some an SUP is fun. Stoke of any kind is good.

I think it looks silly unless they dress up as a gondolier and sing, then it's awesome.

Well, at LJ Shores, there is a dude that dress up like a gondolier and paddles one too.

I have been out at my local break when longboarders are bitching about an SUP in the water. And you have the short boards getting fed up with the longboarders and everyone seems to have a certain opinion on kayaks. If your having a bad day of it there is always someone to piss and moan about cause it must be there fault ! Yes SUP's are big if one is coming hurtling towards you but so is a longboard and a real nice pointed short board is no fun if its heading your way. We have all been in that horrible spot when someone out of control is heading right at you. The water is getting busyer and busyer we just need to pass on the rules to keep it safer and less heated. Maybe that should start at the surf schools.
As for the SUP's its a real good fitness training ,you can go out in tiny surf when you would not bother on your normal board ,you can surf were others cant get to ,it changes how you approach your normal board and it is just a fun way to get out on the water. This is just getting going things will progress kit will get more refined standards will improve. I have seen guys out in well over head sucky waves really pushing it. Check this page on our site < stop putting your fleshing URL on here you spamming monkey :bang: > . I will never give up my short board but it is good to mix things up a bit

lol he has a good structure for a persuasive essay. i give him a A+ for very nice format, however his word choice has been poor. I'll give him an C- for that. For the conclusion, he did not properly cite it, so I can't really give him credit. guys?

Carrying an SUP a hassle ?!!!!!.... .. The ‘old pro’ where I surf astounded me one day - at Llangennith on the Gower - one of the longest walks to the water, and the one of the longest and most difficult paddle-outs in Europe: ‘PJ’, who might be best described as an Iberian ( short, hairy – ooh , I might be in for grief !!!!), ran down to the sea with his full windsurfing rig ( sail and board and harness) balanced on his head – at around 5feet sommit tall, in a force eight – he really blow away the six feet plus machos – none of whom carried all their kit form the car, in bits, to the sand never mind straight from the car park to the water 100’s of yards away !
So if you can’t carry a SUP say 500 yards in a force eight – you just ain’t trying ( I do live in the Southern UK mind you !).

dont knock it till you tried i short board longboard and windsurf and its one of my most used boards as its so versitile had some amazing times on mine bouth on the flat in the waves and also with a sail on.when its flat we go exploring rivers finding nice little coutry pubs to stop at for lunch.had some sweet surf sesshions on it aswell when its clearly been the best tool for the day, there realy good for when te peaks are inconsistent and you have to move around the lineup alot and the feeling of doing nice cutbacks and what not is just as nice as beeing on a mal watch some vids of the god guys on youtube and youl see what i mean proper stylee.yes i agree with all the dagerous stuf and you do have to be carfull but its the same as anything else realy, the one thing i would say is always stay a good leash length away as unfortunatly if your on a sup with a 4foot wave landing on your head as much as we try there sometimes isnt a great deal we can do,i had a close incounter when someone cam from way down the line and did a cut back right around me as i was going out and he got a very close incounter that could have easaly been avoioeded if he had thought about it but i always try keep my line well away from the main packs of people which is anuther great thing about it you quite often have a peak all to yourself and the fitness thing is amazing too.i could go on and on about it for every but i cant realy be bothered the more time there are fewer sup the more waves i will have to myself Image
