I don't think they are 100% on point; but I have started using surfline and magic seaweed and other local sites to determine swell before I go. But the best option I have still will always be boots on ground.. looking at the swell myself and then I always think "knee high.. well I drove 5 miles so mind as well go out!". But use surfline and magic seaweed and start to learn how to determine swell based on your own spot experience combined with the storm/swell/wind report for your region...

According to this article ...

Surfline has logged 95% accuracy within a margin of one foot of wave face height and twelve hours of arrival time.

In fairness, I think a lot of the “inaccuracy” is actually the surfer misinterpreting the direction of the swell. Especially new surfers assume that any swell will make their home break fire on all cylinders. Not quite.

95% accuracy  far far from it

they are okay but there have been times where they have made a complete balls up. But so have other sites like wetsand and wavewatch.
