They are expensive for the same reason women will pay £400 for a handbag made in China for $30 just because it says "Luis Vuiton" on it. That is we are brand whores and too scared to stand out from the crowd. Having said that I'm a sucker for Animal clothing which I buy in end of season sales at half price (I was never in fashion anyway) and also because they are a local employer in my home town of Poole.

Source of cheap stuff = Fleabay - counterfeits , Tescos, Primark, Asda.

I read an article in a magazine recently that called boardies this years "must have" item. Guess that's why they're so pricey.

There's a web shop called m and m direct that sell loads of label clothes at bargain prices.

I have to say that the real thing is incredibly tough - or at least the ones I have bought have been.

The cheap copies just fall apart. The expensive ones look as good now as the day I bought them - almost, even after a hammering in and out of the water.

So good that someone has actually pinched a few of them !

I say go for the expensive (genuine) ones if at all possible.

And no I don’t have a surf shop that sells expensive boardies before you ask !

Totally agree. I've gone through sooooo many board short fakes from Bali it's not funny. But I've got a few real quicksilver boardies that I regularly surf in and they look and feel just as good now as they did about 2 years ago when I got them. It's worth the cost.

I have just had a session in a pair of Blue and Bright Orange Home skin tight pants/trunks while everyone else was in wetsuits !

I lasted two hours in the water surfing my ultra short carbon board.

I guess board shorts would have caused too much drag on this occasion but most of the sand dwellers seemed to be wearing some sort of boardies.

I throw mine on when I dont want the tops of my les to get sunburnt on the beach.
