Surfing Waves

Hello everybody my name is Charlie, I am 14 years old, and I live in Manhattan Beach. I have been surfing (Or at least trying to) since I was 7 years old. I used to ride a long foam board but I have just recently started using my dad's old 7' 2" from when he was my age. Now I can actually catch waves which I couldn't do on my old board! So I consider myself new to riding a surfboard. Unfortunately it has been pretty dreary in Manhattan Beach lately and the waves are in the 1-2 foot range so I have gotten only like 7 waves in the past week and they weren't very big. I would love to take any advice you guys can give because I absolutely love surfing now and want to get better and better at it. Thanks everyone.
