Surfing Waves

hi every one i was just wondering before you decide to go surf or not if you live a good distance from the beach of coarse you check that conditions on the computer right?

my question is what are very good conditions for good waves and what are bad, statistics wise? for example high tide 6 ft low did 3 ft wind speed 10 miles and so on so any one know what the best statistical conditions are for good waves ( and the worst) thanks. ( if it makes a difference i surf around Santa Cruz Half Moon Bay Ocean Beach round there) thanks again hope you can help

Gotta know your breaks, I can tell you where I go on high or low tides, wind or calm days, but only cause I know the San Diego areas. You just have to find a buddy that knows the spots more than you or just hit spots and remember conditions.

Some reef breaks are better in low tide, beach breaks generally on rising tides. But, you never know, it's better to surf than not surf...

no break is the same and a lot of breaks react differently to tides/ winds and swell direction. An example of this is i know of certain spots that will be much cleaner if other spots are blown out. To me the purpose of forecasting sites is to just get a general idea of whats going on and then i use that info to descide where iam going to surf on a given day. The more knowledge you become of a certain break the more accurate your forecast will be.
