Surfboard Weight

Hey guy's, just a quicky. I've got a mate in Rio right now and he may be bringing me a board back as they are dirt cheap over there. It's going to be my 1st board, so how muc hto mini mals or 7'1" ish boards weigh in kilos?

is this so you can figure out how much it would be to ship it over or for your mate to bring back with him on the plane?
The reason I ask is a freight company will charge you the VOLUMETRIC weight to send it and not the actual weight. We import and supply a lot of surfboards over here and to give you an example, a 9foot longboard, despite only weighing about 4 or 5 kg's is charged at a volumetric weight of 95kg.
It takes into account the fact the box is huge and uses lots of space despite not being very heavy.
If it is for the airline for your buddy to bring back as part of his luggage, you may get charged per item or you may get charged by weight. The board weighs certainly no more than 5 kg even with a bag.
If it is per item then I suggest he brings a few boards back and straps them all together to make one big package!!

Cheers, very helpful. I need to find out who he is flying with, ive only checked british airways and they charge £90 for any single item under 32kg, so i really hope he isnt traveling with them as it isnt worth it for just one board.

might be worth him bringing 2 or 3 back from you strapped together so they are charged as one item - then sell the other 2 off to cover the costs and hey presto - free surfboard!!!
That's exactly how we started out a couple of years ago bringing 4 boards back from Cape Town.
