Surf websites - Got one?

1.) Site should be surf related.
2.) Include a link so we can all look at it.
3.) No Spam! It's ok if your website promotes products, but the purpose here is to see other peoples ideas for web design, etc.
4.) Feel free to offer suggestions to me or anyone else on ways to improve...
5.) Have fun!

I'll go first. My site is http://www.gone-surfing.com, it's a surfsite a couple of friends and moi' got. Basically, we're writing surf articles (when we got the time), some surf reviews, and the site also got our own surf photos, videos etc. First website, so constructive criticism is more than welcomed.

Who's next? :D

Its funny but im actually working on 2 website projects i wont post anny links as they are just in infant stages. But basically my personal one is related to video just fun really and the one im working on for a friend a pro shaper is a blog based on indepth surfboard dynamics that should be real interesting :D

The main crit i can give is the layout isnt to my taste too blocky. In website design your main template is the most important thing a little more design time spent is well worth the effort. When i used to design for money i could spend a solid week (that was rushing too as normaly i would have a deadline) or more just on the template alone. The outlay of a site is the first thing most people see so its uber important. Content is what keeps people coming back

I would suggest spending some time looking at sites that are doing simular things and pay attention to how they have outlined things. That should give you some idea's.

^^^ no worries mate. Doing your own design is fun as theres no pressure + you can be really really creative if you want to just dont substitute functionality for design :-) the two should go hand in hand

Mine isn't surf related, but you can check it out. (I am not profiting from this site) http://www.dirt-unlimited.com it is geared tward dirt sports. I am looking for a custom layout and banner/logo if anyone does that sort of thing.

Is this hosted on a free forum hosting site with your domain name pointing to it? As most of these guys make it very hard to do any form of customization apart from a header. Things might have changed of course im going back a few years here

Got any idea's on what you want your logo/header to look like examples or something like is handy. More often than not if you have a program like photoshop they are pretty easy to make depending on the graphics of course.

They layout however is nice and compact although im not keen on black for forums seems to make everything harder to read course that could just be my dodgy vision these days

If you have access to modding the template then you can add a a little google adsesne code so it views after the first post in each topic. You can make a few bucks here and there. Of course if the site gets huge then you make a little bit more than a few bucks 8)

Doing a custom template for phpbb forums are nasty i always had a rough time with it but modding an existing theme isnt so bad particually if you are not changing the layout as its just a matter of editing the css file to change colour schemes and editing the theme pictures in photoshop. :D

yep about march ish my design is there but the content sucks at the moment

Yeah i have the same issues although fortunatly a lot of my content can be derived from people who want me to load up their writings and of course video content the only trouble is i have to sort through the trash to find the gems.

I have no idea what I want, I made a few rough designs in paint that I liked. The one I am kinda hooked on has the name of the site with Mud tire, dirtbike tire, and boot tracks in the background. My main goal is to include an array of dirt sports in the logo/banner.

Oh, and I am hosted on Godaddy.com, they have been good to me with the exception of about a month ago. The site would get slow for 20 minute patches throughout the day.

The attached pic is my (lame and goofy) paint work. My favorite is the box with the white background, but I have no style...

I've been slowly working on a new website.

http://www.surfingstoke.com/

It's been a fun project and I'm getting lots of visitors, but it's tough work to find the time to add to it.

Don, I run a surfing forum as well but focused on California surfers. It was meant for a few of us to organize outings but it's since grown at a pretty steady clip.

aloha,
our website is srfhawaii.com. we are working on updating regularly with stories and pics so we can grow the website. it's kinda hard when you have web design outsourced, a blog type site has a lot more internal control. looking forward to seeing the other reply websites.
