Christmas Surfing

Just been looking at the charts for both the UK and Oz to see whats gonna be happening on the big day...

Looking like the UK might have some cracking waves leading into christmas day, and still enough about after the turkey to keep people happy :D

East coast Oz looking like its going to maintain its run of small-but-fun swells, and the water temp is really beginning to heat up 8)

As for me, Im gonna be in Whiritoa, NZ, so Im guessing whats gonna happen!
But from what I can see, there should be some swell for me too - now I just need to get hold of a board!

So who's going for a chrimbo paddle?

(DBBB would like to point out that all forecasts are, at this stage, almost entirely fictitious, and no responsibility will be taken for people believing this forecast in anyway whatsoever).

Mate, it pumps. I had a great surf there on my 25th birthday, some time in the middle of the last decade. Shallow, hollow, warm and all round hero waves.

If you get a chance, and can deal with the xmas crowd (won't be of ozzie proportions), and the swell is there, take a short drive up the Coromandel to Whangamata. Whanga bar is one of the most perfect epic picturesque left handers you can ever surf. Hot Water Beach is worth a look too.

The whole Coromandel is worth a drive round, some beautiful spots there.

Sure you'll have a great one!

Me - I got the MIL, who hates me, coming from the Naki to stay for two weeks, it's the busiest time of year for me at work, so 4 days off, and if I'm lucky, a 3 hr drive south to score some waves in the Catlins between bouts of work. The fishing should be spot on though, cicadas are out and the trout are hungry.

looks like the festive season highlight will be boxing day here - as we've got a pumping 1-2ft with 8 sec period forecast (maybe)...

Oh well... maybe I'll just eat lots and get fat instead.

back in cornwall now for 2 weeks. i'll be jumping in for a boxing day surf tomorrow... very tempted by the idea of a chrimbo day surf and getting back in time for xmas dinner in the afternoon, fantastic!
